Polymer imports for May dragged down in China, Turkey

In China, the country imported a total of 1,246,000 tons of plastics in May, indicating a decrease of more than 113,000 tons from April and a larger decrease of 455,000 tons from March, when the counttry set an all-time high for plastic imports.

Naphtha cracks down to 8 month lows in Asia

Naphtha cracks - the premiums/losses from refining Brent crude into naphtha, have dropped by over 5 dollars to US$76/ton. Cracks have ebbed to their lowest since Oct. 16, 2009 on concerns over demand on news of a fire that forced a shutdown at Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp’s 700,000 tpa naphtha cracker for about a month.

A fire caused by a possible leakage at a distillation tower has forced a shutdown at Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp’s 700,000 tpa naphtha cracker. Saudi financial company to launch petrochem ETF for petrochemical shares on bourse

Saudi's Falcom Financial Services plans to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) for Saudi petrochemical shares on the Kingdom’s bourse as per Reuters. After granting foreign share ownership via swap aagreements in 2008, the Kingdom has allowed local brokerages to launch ETFs, in a bid to attract more investment to its bourse.

Qatofin has exported about 4,500 tons of ethylene from the Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC), shipping it via Norgas, the company’s ethylene shipping contractor.
Commercial operations were started inn May at Qatofin, a joint venture involving Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco, 63%), Total Petrochemicals of France (36%) and Qatar Petroleum (1%).
