Turkey’s plastics imports rise in July despite rising prices
According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s plastics imports in July 2010 rose when compared to the same period of 2009. Total plastics imports for July 2010 rreached 294,000 tons, moving up from 287,000 tons in July 2009.

Location of both suspended projects in Map Tha Phut to remain unchanged
The Thai Administrative Court has ordered termination of the operating permits of only two industrial projects in the Map Ta Phut, allowing 74 other earlier-suspended projects to go ahead. The two susspended projects are expansions – An ethylene-glycol (EG) plant by TOC Glycol, a unit of PTT Chemical PCL, and a vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant by an affiliate of Siam Cement PCL.

Westlake to construct chlor-alkali plant at vinyls manufacturing complex in Geismar
Westlake Chemical Corp is to commence construction of a new chlor-alkali plant at its vinyls manufacturing complex in Geismar, Louisiana, at an investment of US$250-300 mln. Capacity will include 2500,000 electrochemical units (ECU's) annually, bringing the total estimated ECU capacity to 525,000 pa.
