New grades offer twice the flow length of conventional glass-filled PBT grades

New high flow poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) grades that offer twice the flow length of conventional glass-filled PBT grades have been introduced by Sabic Innovative Plastics. Valox® SHF (Super Hiigh Flow) allows to reduce cycle time by up to 25% due to faster injection rate and reduced cooling time and are available in flame retardant and non flame retardant grades, with glass fiber contents ranging from 15 to 40%.

Thai PTT expects H2 net profit at similar levels as H1

PTT, Thailand's biggest energy firm, expects second-half net profit to be at levels similar close to the first half, as its oil and gas businesses remain under pressure from the weak economy. Several bidders for Artenius polyethylene terephthalate plant

Crewmen missing after collision of naphtha tanker with cargo vessel

A tanker carrying approximately 58,000 tons of naphtha from the United Arab Emirates to South Korea, has collided with a British registered bulk carrier ship in the Strait of Malacca. Nine crewmen froom the oil vessel were missing after the collision that has not resulted in any oil spill, and shipping in the busy waterway has not been disrupted despite a fire on the tanker.

Oxea acquires assets of ExxonMobil’s facility in Amsterdam

With effect from August 1, 2009, Oxea has finished the acquisition of assets of the Amsterdam Esters Plant in Amsterdam from ExxonMobil Chemical Holland B.V. Dow is looking for buyers for Styron - a newly formed unit that includes its styrenics and polycarbonate holdings. The unit will include Dow’s polystyrene, ABS, SAN, PC, styrene monomer, styrene-butaddiene rubber and latex assets, with as annual sales of about US$5 bln.

Ethylene cargo to arrive in Europe from USA

A cargo of 9,000 ton is to arrive in Europe from USA by end of the month as per ICIS. Freight has been fixed at US$190/ton on the Isabella Kosan, but details of the CFR price in Europe is not immediattely available.

Borouge’s new polyolefins complex on track to start up in 2010

Borouge 2 project at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, is about 80% complete, with commercial sales expected to start shipping by mid-2010. The polyolefins complex comprises a 1.5 mln tpa cracker, a 540,000 tpa polyyethylene unit and a 800,000,000 tpa polypropylene (PP) unit.

Provisional anti-dumping duty on PP from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore

Anti-dumping duty has been levied provisionally in India on polypropylene imports from Oman, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. India’s Finance Ministry has taken this action about 6 weeks after the Designatted Authority in the Commerce Ministry recommended this imposition.
