European polyethylene converters are seeking a reduction in contract price for November, in line with a fall in the feedstock ethylene, as per Platts.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has denied news that it is looking to buy Valero Energy Corp, as per BusinessStandard.
“While it is, and will remain, the policy of Reliance not to comment on market ruumors, in light of the materiality of the rumored transaction, Reliance wishes to dispel the rumors and announce that it is not in discussions with Valero nor otherwise considering an acquisition of Valero,” RIL said in a statement.

China Coal Shaanxi to start up light olefins recovery unit in 2013
China Coal Shaanxi Yulin Energy & Chemical plans to start up one of its two new light olefins recovery units at Yulin, Shaanxi province, in 2013, technology provider Lummus Technology said to Platts. The units are expected to have a combined capacity of 300,000 tpa of ethylene and 300,000 tpa of propylene.

Haldia Petrochemicals mulls two projects to beat financial crisis
In a bid to come out of its financial crisis, India’s second largest PE maker Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) plans to invest in plants to produce Butiene-1 and Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber (SBR).
The ccash-starved company, co-promoted by the West Bengal government, may float a request for a proposal from global firms for project Butiene-1 by Friday, as per a company official.

Import LDPE prices losing premium over HDPE in China
Steadily declining import LDPE film prices in the Chinese market have brought down premium for LDPE over HDPE film to its lowest level since the closing weeks of 2009, as per ChemOrbis.
