Huntsman, PUR-Systems ink JV to manufacture, sell PU systems in Central Europe

Huntsman Corporation and PUR-Systems GmbH & Co. KG have formed a joint venture for making and selling polyurethane systems in Central Europe and elsewhere. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) had beenn signed between the two companies in May, giving Huntsman a majority share.

LANXESS opens laboratory for polymer analytical measurements

LANXESS AG's Technical Rubber Products (TRP) business unit has recently opened a laboratory for dynamic-mechanical analyses (DMA) within its Polymer Testing department. The new laboratory will carry oout polymer analytical measurements to enable determination of the properties and characteristics of plastics and elastomers required to optimize the processing properties of rubber compounds or their polymer physical properties for particular applications.

Huntsman estimates US$49 mln costs, lost margins due to hurricane impact in Q3

Huntsman Corporation announced an estimated US$49 mln of costs and lost profit margin in Q3 2008 as a result of hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Excluding the hurricane impact, the company expects its Adjussted EBITDA (Earnings before Interest, Income Tax, Depreciation and Amortization) for the Q3 2008 to be greater than the previous quarter and similar to the Q3 2007.

Texas Petrochemicals doubles polyisobutylene capacity at Houston plant

Texas Petrochemicals Inc., a Houston based petrochemical company has recently announced completion of commissioning its new polyisobutylene (PIB) production unit at its Houston plant site. The plant sstarted on October 6, 2008 is designed to produce both highly reactive PIB (HR-PIB), and enhanced PIB (E-PIB) using its proprietary technology which substitutes for conventional PIB in many applications.
