The Governments of number two and three supplier of intermediate petrochemical products in ASEAN; Thailand and Malaysia are pursuing their individual demands for compensation from the Philippines. Thee Philippine government has exempted the 11 intermediate petrochemical products (polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and PP with co-polymers, expansible polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), plasticized and non-plasticized PVC) from the CEPT under Executive Order 161 issued in January 2003 in an effort to give reprieve to the midstream petrochemical industry.
