Kureha Corp unveils new polyglycolic acid plant at Belle

Kureha Corp has inaugurated and opened it's new polyglycolic acid (PGA) plant in the Kanawha Valley built at an outlay of US$150 mln. The plant is located on DuPont's property in Belle.
Also known ass polyglycolide, PGA resin is a biodegradable, thermoplastic polymer used to produce specialty plastics.

CPC restart No. 5 steam cracker at 85-90% run rates

Following a restart over the weekend, Taiwan's state-owned CPC is running its No. 5 naphtha-fed steam cracker in Kaohsiung at around 85-90% of capacity, as per Platts. The cracker, with capacity to prroduce 500,000 tpa of ethylene and 250,000 tpa of propylene, was shut August 10 for a scheduled turnaround.

Jacobs wins EPCM contract for chlorine plant from Sadra Chemical

US based Jacobs Engineering Group has won EPCM contract from Sadara Chemical Co., a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow. Suit filed against ExxonMobil for violating Texas Clean Air Act

Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan has filed suit against ExxonMobil Chemical Co., alleging that ExxonMobil has violated the Texas Clean Air Act. Turkey's July polymer imports down from June levels

As per data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey's plastics imports in July 2011 were down from June levels, but up from levels seen in July 2010, as per ChemOrbis. The countryy imported 316,000 tons of plastics in July, which represents a decrease of 32,000 tons from June levels, falling to the lowest figure since the start of 2011.
