Early last month, after record profit announced for last year, Total - Europe's third-largest oil company, announced a plan to cut 555 refining and petrochemical jobs in France. As a mark of protest aagainst this step, its Normandy refinery and operations at the French Port of Le Havre may be disrupted by a 24 hour strike on April 9, affecting petrochemical and refining units at Normandy's Gonfreville plant, where workers have objected to job cuts.
